Sensational Birth
Holistic childbirth education for an informed, empowered, and intuitive birth. This course combines movement practices that encourage embodiment and instinctual action with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate your experience, wherever you choose to give birth.
What does your ideal birth environment look and smell like? Are you sensitive to fluorescent lighting, certain colors, or beeping sounds? What might birth partners feel in their bodies as the birthing person is laboring? The Sensational Birth curriculum is framed around the senses to foster a better understanding of how mammalian birth works and to empower you to advocate for your specific needs. Yes, we cover stages of labor, medical interventions, and birth positions. We also go beyond traditional childbirth education by tuning into the nervous system, addressing often overlooked sensory details, and encouraging self exploration through embodied and artistic practices. In the Sounds of Birth module, for example, we discuss and practice vocalization and partners learn to listen to the birthing person to gauge labor progress. Join us and discover the sensual side of birth, particularly the mysterious “sixth sense” – intuition. This comprehensive course serves not only as birth planning and preparation, but as rehearsal for birth itself. Solo participants welcome, partner/doula attendance encouraged.
